(Erin) Kim Turnbull - "Miss Kim"
B.A. Dal. NeuroPsych., A.C.D.T.A. since 1985 Our Master of Ceremonies, better known in the Dance Community as “Miss Kim’, has been with Limelight Productions since the beginning. She has M.C.’d for dance events throughout the region and has acted as an adjudicator for several Atlantic dance competitions but she says, “Limelight always feels like being home with family”. She has studied and/or taught Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Modern, Contemporary, Hip-Hop, Step Dance, Flamenco, Belly Dance, Character National, African, Social Dance and Country and Western dance forms with some of the most acclaimed teachers of her time. Her training began when she was three years old with Mother Mary Turnbull, leading to her professional qualification through the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association (C.D.T.A.) in 1985 with further qualifications reached in 1991, 1995 and 2012. Throughout the decades, she has also completed numerous student and teaching level exams in the Russian and N.A.T.D. syllabi. She has held the position of Artistic Director of several multidisciplinary schools throughout her career, has been on the faculty of an dhas guest taught at dozens of competitive schools coast to coast. ‘Miss Kim’ opened her first studio in Head of St. Margaret’s Bay in September 2001 then went on to open two more studios on the South Shore, in Chester and Bridgewater as well as one in Fall River. To this day these areas continue to thrive as vital dance centres under the direction of our next generation of teachers. Drawing from her performance background in live theatre, television and film, Miss Kim has choreographed and guest performed locally with several Maritime theatre companies including Chester Playhouse and Neptune Theatre. Other credits to her name include having been acknowledged for her contribution to “The Tap Dance Dictionary”, published by MacFarland & Company, acting as Competition Coordinator for the first two C.D.T.A. Atlantic Ballet Festivals, having been a director on the Board of Dance Nova Scotia from 1996-2003 and the Atlantic Vice President of the C.D.T.A., but her most proud accomplishment she says, are her beautiful dancing daughters. |
Judges Bio
Robert Leduc
Rob started dance at an early age and has since earned numerous titles and awards as both a dancer and a choreographer. Entering into professional dance at the age of 16, Robert has balanced a University career earning three separate university level degrees while continuing to grow and develop in the field of dance. Rob’s professional career includes featured dance work with various industrial publicity campaigns, theme parks and production companies. He spent many years as a dance instructor at University of Windsor and as a master workshop teacher for dancers in Canada and the United States. As a choreographer he is well sought after throughout the Ontario dance scene, having taught at dozens of studios across the province and abroad. He has trained extensively on dance scholarships in both New York and Los Angeles, and toured worldwide through contract dance positions with various cruise lines and production companies. Rob attended the University of Windsor earning an Honours degree in Drama in Education, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He then continued on to The University of Western Ontario where he holds a Bachelor of Education degree and is a certified member of the Ontario College of Teachers for the Intermediate and Senior levels. Rob excels as both a secular school teacher and dance teacher and is also a teaching member of the Cecchetti Council of America. Rob continues to train students of all ages, and has dancers who have gone on to win national level titles and scholarships of their own. |
Tonya Murray
Tonya Murray started dance at the age of three and went on to simultaneously enter the fields of dance and science. Despite entering the professional dance landscape at the age of 15, Tonya continued dancing through her school career as well while gathering titles and awards as a competitive dancer both in Canada and abroad. Tonya’s professional career includes features in music videos, concert tours, national and international television commercial campaigns, and touring with several North American performance companies and cruise lines. She has also been featured in television shows and major motion pictures for Paramount Pictures, Netflix and HBO Entertainment. While furthering her dance career, Tonya attended the University of Toronto where she served as a resident dance instructor while completing a Specialist degree in Cell & Molecular Biology. She then continued on to The University of Western Ontario where she received her Bachelor of Education degree with Distinction, becoming a certified member of the Ontario College of Teachers for the Intermediate and Senior Science divisions. Whilst managing the role of Artistic Director of Elite Dance Centre, Tonya completed a Master’s Degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Epidemiology and Health Science. She is also currently a senior mathematics teacher in Ontario. Tonya is also Member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing and a Licentiate Member of the Cecchetti Council of America. Her students have gone on to win numerous titles and awards in both the United States and Canada, continue with their own dance careers, open studios of their own and most importantly, continue to grow and prosper in their adult lives. |
